Do You Love Food?

16-DoYouLoveFoodDo You Love Food?

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, is your first thought of chocolate, or love?  If it’s easier to love food than it is to love people, maybe your conflicts over relationships are getting played out with food.

In this episode, Dr. Nina explores how the “food of love” sometimes can be replaced by the “love of food.”

Many people focus on other things at the expense of their relationships.   If you’re focusing on something (like food, weight, body image, and appearance), rather than someone, then whatever is going on with food may reflect your conflicts about closeness, intimacy and trust.

Dr. Nina breaks down our relationship with food into three areas:

  1. Love
  2. Love-Hate
  3. Hate

If you love food, you may turn to food as a substitute for relationships with people.

If you have more of a love-hate stance, you may be expressing conflicts about people or situations through food.  You may be converting relational issues between you and someone else into an internal conflict between you and food.

If you hate food, you might use food to get into a “zone” that distracts from thoughts you don’t want to think and feelings you don’t want to feel.

The good news is that it’s possible to change, and to construct a new way of relating to others.   Dr. Nina offers “food for thought” to help you identify and challenge the beliefs, fears and ideas that are keeping you stuck.
