19-BeaSizeAwesomeDo you know anyone who’s really awesome? Take a moment and consider what makes that person so cool and amazing? Is it the size of their jeans? The gap between their thighs? Their weight?

Probably not.

What makes a person awesome is his or her integrity, intelligence, kindness, warmth, and spirit, to name just a few qualities. In other words, you can’t weigh awesome, because it’s a “way” of being, not a number.

In this episode, Dr. Nina suggests that relying on numbers to define yourself – the size of your body, the size of your jeans, the number on the scale – then you’re limiting your total sense of self to your physical self and ignoring everything else that’s important – what about your emotional, intellectual, relational self? What about your values?

If those measures aren’t even a blip on the radar of your self-esteem, it’s time to find a new definition of self-worth.

As Dr. Nina puts it, “Awesome is not a number; it’s a state of mind.”

When you feel good about yourself, you’re less likely to turn to food for comfort or distraction, and you’ll be happier – and that’s awesome!
